Monday, June 7, 2010

An acrobatic group known by the name of Spelbound has been declared as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010, a televised variety talent show competition broadcast on ITV in the United Kingdom. As the winning act of the show, Spelbound have won £100,000 (US$144,580, 120,313, A$175,079) and a place at The Royal Variety Performance, an annual gala evening that is attended by senior members of the British Royal Family.

In no particular order, the top three acts were revealed to be two dancers known by their stage name of Twist and Pulse, gymnastic group Spelbound and Kieran Gaffney, whose act involves playing on the drum kit. After Kieran Gaffney was revealed to be in third place, Anthony McPartlin, who hosts Britain’s Got Talent with Declan Donnelly, said to Kieran: “Well done Kieran. Kieran, you’re a star, you came back, you got all the way to the final. I know you’ve loved this. You’ve loved this, haven’t you?” In response to this, Kieran Gaffney stated: “Thank you very much. Thank you, everyone for supporting me. Thank you.”

Shortly afterwards, on the episode that was broadcast live on ITV1 on Saturday, Anthony announced: “After tens of thousands of auditons, five semi-finals and an amazing final, this…this is it. One of you is about to walk away with £100,000 and a place at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. The winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010 is…Spelbound!” Glen Murphy from Twist and Pulse commented about finishing in second place, stating: “Yeah, it’s amazing. I can’t even believe it. I can’t believe it at all.”

Alex Uttley, a 24-year-old member of Spelbound, commented on the gymnastic group’s victory, commenting: “Oh, my god. This is unbelieveable. We just want to say thank you to everyone out there. It just shows that all our hard work has paid off.” One of the coaches of Spelbound, named Neil Griffiths, stated about Spelbound: “Oh, they’ve worked so hard over the last few weeks. Um, since the semi-final, we…we really had to pull out the stops to try and up the game. They’ve not known they’ve worked in the gym from six in the morning till twelve…twelve o’clock of the night. I couldn’t have asked for more. Um, it’s a team of coaches. I don’t take all the credit myself. There’s, uh, two people up there that know who they are who’ve been fantastic.”

Spelbound consists of 24-year-old Alex Uttley, Nicholas Illingworth, aged 24, Adam Buckingham, aged 21, 20-year-old Adam McAssey, 19-year-old Douglas Fordyce, 18-year-old Edward Upcott, 18-year-old Leighanne Cowler, 17-year-old Katie Axten, 17-year-old Lauren Kemp, 15-year-old Jonathan Stranks, Abigail Ralph, aged 15, 13-year-old Hollianne Wood and Amy Mackenzie, aged 12. Bookmakers had previously predicted that Spelbound would be the most likely act to become the winner of the series.

The running order for the final started with Twist and Pulse. The second act to perform was Liam McNally, a 14-year-old singer. The running order subsequently continued with 40-year-old impressionist Paul Burling, singer Christopher Stone, aged 28, Tina & Chandi, a woman and dog dancing act, Connected, a five-piece singing group, Kieran Gaffney, aged 12, 22-year-old Tobias Mead, a dancer, 80-year-old singer Janey Cutler and Spelbound in that particular order.

Earlier on in the final, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has stated to Spelbound: “We are hosting the 2012 Olympics and I think ‘what a brilliant opening act’.” Fellow judge Piers Morgan also commented that “[t]he purpose of this show is to identify hidden great British talent. You are that act.” After Spelbound won in the final, another judge, named Simon Cowell, stated that “the right boys and girls won on the night” and that he could “only say on live TV that that was one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. Seriously.”

Rebels blow up oil pipelines in Assam

“The recovered device was kept in a Tiffin box, which was programmed to explode at 6:15 [IST] in the evening,” said police sources adding that the hand of ULFA was suspected. The passengers of Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express had a miraculous escape as a bomb planted on the tracks near Naharkatia in the Dibrugarh district detonated just before the superfast train was to pass last night, said official sources. On Friday night, at least six persons injured in the state, following five powerful blasts that was suspected to be triggered by the banned outfit.

These blasts came barely hours after a powerful bomb explosion that killed five people and injured over 15 at a busy vegetable market in the Guwahati city on Friday evening. Things To Check Before You Sell Used Car

By Harvey Ong

Selling a used automobile can be a daunting process, primarily because a lot of people would rather buy a car brand new than run the risk of buying a used one. There are many reasons for this behavior, ranging from practicality to psychology. However, that does not mean that a market for used cars does not exist. On the contrary, there are thousands of people that sell used car regularly and some, with a rather negative reputation, make a living out of it. There are a few things to keep in mind before one goes on to sell used car, though.

The first step to check out would be the actual physical condition of the machine. Nobody is going to buy an automobile that looks like it has been through a hurricane. While external damage can be fixed such that the damage would no longer be visible, pay careful attention to the floor pan. Damage there is not as easy to remove as in the rest of the car. Visible damage in the area may force the original owner to lower the price but admitting that the machine has sustained damage is the best option. At the very least, being honest about the damage spares the sellers the hassle of having to explain why they did not mention any previous damage the car has gone through. Note that this step is not as important if the intent on sell used car is for parts and not as a whole vehicle.

The next obvious step when someone decides to sell used car is to determine the price. This can be accomplished by research, usually by going through car ads in newspapers or magazines. There are also several websites on the Internet that have similar ads which can be used for comparison. Beyond that, there are also websites that list the current market price of any given model of auto. Note, however, that the above websites list the price for stock vehicles and do not take upgrades, alterations, and modifications into account. The seller should be sure to take into account any previous repair work done, as well as any replacement or upgrade parts on the vehicle. Once all the research has been done and all the upgrades and replacements have been factored into the amount, the seller can then decide on the price.

Cleaning the vehicle thoroughly is the next step before anyone can sell used car. This includes both the outside and the inside. The glove compartment, the trunk, and the interior areas of the automobile should be completely void of anything that isn’t part of the car itself. Give the outside a good waxing. If it seems necessary, do something to make the paint job look less aged. Check the outside for scratches, dents, and marks. While the machine does not have to be spotless, it should at least look both presentable and well-maintained.

This step should go without saying but for the sake of completion: check if the automobile can still run. Under the assumption that the auto is being sold to someone who wants to drive it, no responsible seller will sell used car that does not run. Since most people will believe they are entitled to a test run, the seller should be prepared to allow the prospective buyer to take the machine out for a test run. Failure to do so can become detrimental to the sale of the car. As with the first step, making sure the engine actually runs is optional if the machine is being sold for parts.

Once the above steps have been completed, then the seller can proceed to setting up just how he intends to sell used car in the first place. The above steps are merely for helping any prospective seller out in making sure that the vehicle they intend to sell is in good condition and to avoid any mishaps during the selling process. Once the above steps are completed, the seller then is free to realize that to actually sell used car is a completely different venture.

Top 5 Ways To Prevent Constipation

Submitted by: Ashley D. Wilson

Hello everyone! For this article, I decided to write about the top 5 ways you can prevent constipation. Constipation is something that nearly everyone deals with at some point in their life time. Constipation is also something I have dealt with for many years, and I have learned a lot on how to manage it. That is why I decided to write this article and share some of the information that I have learned with you. I hope this information helps you as much as it has helped me. Now, here are the top 5 ways to prevent constipation!

1. Change Your Diet!

This first way is by far the best way. Try changing your diet! The top cause of constipation is a lack of fiber in your diet. Just how much fiber is in the food you eat? It might not be as much as you think. Fruits, Cereals, and Vegetables have a lot of fiber. Try to include these foods in your meals each day! By including these foods, you are likely to prevent any problems with constipation. So remember, fruit, fruit, fruit!

2. Try Changing Medications!

This may sound like a strange idea. However, many medicines (including over-the-counter medications) can cause constipation. In fact, many of these medicines will list side effects right in its list of side effects. If you are having issues with constipation and you take medications, talk to your doctor. There might in fact be a connection between the two. This of course can be fixed by trying alternative medicines. Remember though, only under the guidance of a doctor.

3. Laxatives

Using Laxatives is another way of preventing constipation. This is fairly obvious. However, many people take laxatives as a precaution to prevent any constipation. I should note though, if you are to take laxatives regularly, use them only under the guidance of a doctor. Many doctors do prescribe laxatives for patients with frequent constipation issues, but you should really speak to a doctor.

4. Exercise More!

I have had a lot of success with this strategy. Even going for a simple walk can really get your digestive system going and lead to having to go to the bathroom. You would be surprised just how many people that deal with constipation aren’t exercising each day. But you know what? We should be exercising each day for our health anyway! So add preventing constipation as another reason that we should exercise each day.

5. When You Have To Go To The Bathroom, Go!

This may sound like a silly suggestion, but many people have to go to the bathroom but don’t always go right away. This is a big mistake and can lead to problems with constipation in the future. You should always go to the bathroom when you need to.

I hope this article has helped any of you that are having problems with constipation or are worried about constipation in the future! By doing these simple tips you can easily prevent constipation. Good luck!

Queensland prisoners put to work manufacturing water tanks

Monday, April 30, 2007

Prisoners in the Australian state of Queensland have been put to work manufacturing rainwater tanks to help meet a shortfall in supply.

The southeast corner of Queensland, which is currently undergoing one of its worst droughts on record, is experiencing a boom in the rainwater tank industry. Households, encouraged by subsidies introduced by the Beattie government, have enthusiastically begun installing rainwater tanks as well as other water-saving devices. These subsidies have led to a shortfall in supply however, with some households waiting months for tanks to be installed.

The new initiative, announced by Premier Peter Beattie as well as Corrective Services minister Judy Spence will see prisoners at Woodford Correctional Centre, Australia’s largest gaol, constructing tanks for AU$4 per day. Spence has pledged not to use the cheap labour to undercut existing tank suppliers. Beattie also pointed out that the programme would give prisoners constructing the tanks valuable work skills for when their sentences are completed. If the programme is successful, it may be extended to other gaols around the state.

The Beattie government has been increasingly criticised over recent months for its failure to handle the water crisis engulfing Southeast Queensland. Opponents accuse the Government of a lack of planning foresight with regards to water supply for the booming area, which includes state capital Brisbane, as well as other cities such as Ipswich, Toowoomba and Gold Coast.
