Britain’s Royal Windsor Castle to get hydro-electric power plant

Monday, July 25, 2005

Windsor Castle, one of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom’s official residences, is to get a hydro-electric power scheme.

The £1 million project will consist of a series of under-water turbines to be installed at Romney Weir in the nearby River Thames. The system will generate 200kW, enough to meet approximately one third of the castle’s electricity needs.

The electricity from the four turbines will not be sold into the local electricity grid, but will instead be directly connected to Windsor Castle’s electrical system. It will save 600 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year.

The scheme was announced after it gained planning permission from the local council, the plans having been submitted in February of last year. A feasability study will now be conducted, with construction scheduled to start next year.

The Windsor Castle is not the only environmentally-friendly Royal scheme. A borehole beneath Buckingham Palace provides cold water for air-conditioning and the Duke of Edinburgh’s taxi runs on liquid petroleum gas.

Insider Secrets To The D&Amp;B Business Credit Score

By Ted Aberle

When you are looking to obtain or increase access to credit for your business, it is very important that you understand what the lenders (whether banks or Suppliers) are looking to see.

“This is especially important when you are financing a business without using a personal guarantee’ Said Craig Aberle, an Expert on Business Credit and the author of Business Credit Secrets. ‘When credit extended is being considered, the bank has two separate decisions to make- Question #1 is ‘Should this business be extended credit”? and #2- “HOW MUCH credit should we extend?”

In many cases, the important point is to be approved for credit. The size of the line is irrelevant. For example, $750 is the credit line that staples will give most new approved applications. When an applicant’s application is received, the very first thing they do is check if you have a business phone line, which is verifiable with 411.

“It’s unfortunate that many businesses skimp on obtaining a business line and opt for a personal phone line, because the monthly bill is cheaper. They do not realize that this can cost them literally thousands of dollars and denial of access to funding to grow”, he said.

Dun and Bradstreet, or D&B as they are commonly called, have an almost-monopoly grip on the Business Credit Report industry.

Although competition like Experian’s Business Credit Score, Called Market Intelliscore, does exist, D&B has a virtual monopoly on the space, with most Banks and Suppliers Lending to small businesses focusing on the D&B Score and Report.

A sample Experian Intelliscore can be found at

http://www.acollectionagency.com/business/eb_commercial_intelliscore.php

Another Business Credit Report type is from Equifax Small Business. It is called the ‘Financial Account Acquisition Score’.

“The Equifax and Experian Reports will self build once you focus on the D&B score.” Said Craig Aberle, Business Credit Expert. “It would not be a good idea to be busy trying to build this up on your own. It is not commonly used by most lenders you will be dealing with and it will grow automatically as your accounts grow and your business information gets shared- it will happen while you sleep!”

A major difference between D&B and Experian is that Whilst D&B will allow you to self submit information about your business, Experian will not, and will only take information from vendors they have relationships with.

“One of the tricks of getting into Experian’s system is to order catalogs from vendors such as Rhode Island Novelty http://www.rinovelty.com/ , Uline supply http://www.uline.com and Dell http://www.dell.com, he said.

Atlas V successfully launches spy satellite

Thursday, March 13, 2008

An Atlas V rocket has successfully launched a classified spy satellite for the United States National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The satellite, currently known to the public as NRO L-28, or Launch 28, is believed by amateur enthusiasts to be a signals intelligence (SIGINT) spacecraft, known by the codename Trumpet. The Atlas V carrier rocket flew in the 411 configutation, with a 4 metre diameter fairing, one solid rocket motor, and a single-engine Centaur upper stage.

The rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Space Launch Complex 3 East (SLC-3E), at 10:02 GMT (03:02 local time) this morning. Today’s flight marks the thirteenth launch of the Atlas V, and the first Atlas V launch from Vandenberg. It is also the tenth orbital launch of 2008. The satellite entered a Molniya orbit, usually used by the NRO for SIGINT and communications satellites.

The launch was conducted by United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin, who designed and built the Atlas V, and Boeing, to provide EELV launches for the US Government. ULA president Michael Gass described the launch as “a proud moment in our company’s history”. The launch had been delayed by two years, from early 2006, due to a number of factors.

In addition to its reconnaissance payload, the satellite is carrying two small experiments. SBIRS-HEO 2 and TWINS-B. SBIRS is a test article for a missile detection system, slated to launch late this year or early next, and TWINS is a NASA infrared astronomy experiment. They will remain attached to the satellite for the duration of its mission.

Following the separation of the payload fairing, around five minutes after launch, all information on the launch was withheld, however about an hour into the flight, the launch was confirmed to have been successful. ULA will conduct its next launch on Saturday, when a Delta II will orbit a GPS satellite. The next Atlas launch is scheduled for mid-April, with the ICO G1 communication satellite.

Sen. Larry Craig claims innocent of lewd conduct

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

Sen. Larry Craig held a news conference Tuesday in Boise, Idaho to issue a public statement about his arrest in June, 2007 and subsequent guilty plea, August 8, to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

In his statement, Sen. Craig indicated that when he pled guilty to the charge, two months after the fact, he didn’t understand at the time what he was signing and declared himself innocent of any wrongdoing at the Minneapolis airport on June 11, 2007.

According to the arresting officer, Sgt. Dave Karsnia, who was dressed in civilian clothes at the time of the incident, he was using a bathroom stall when Sen. Craig entered the stall next to his. Karsnia reported the Senator tapped his right foot, and then stretched his foot over to touch the officer’s left foot. Sen. Craig also ran his hand along the bottom of the stall’s dividing wall. According to CNN, that type of behavior is known in the Gay community as a signal that the person wants to engage in lewd behavior. The officer subsequently showed Sen. Craig his badge. Using his other hand, Karsnia directed Craig to move toward the door. After some words and Sen. Craig’s refusal to cooperate with the officer, he was placed under arrest.

An additional charge against Sen. Craig, interference with privacy, had been thrown out. Sen. Craig received a ten-day suspended jail sentence, was fined US$500, and was given one year probation.

Sen. Craig admitted that he did not mention his arrest to the Senate Ethics Committee, which is not required by law, and also didn’t tell his wife and other immediate family members about his arrest until recent days.

Proper Etiquette For Dealing With Real Estate Agents

By William Jake Fischer

Finding or even selling a home or a building can be a tough especially in cases when there are a lot of variables and elements that come into play. This includes the price of the home, the quality of the home and the look and other similar things.

There are a lot of great real estate companies, agencies and even agents that have been highly praised by other happy and satisfied customers who have either found their dream home or sold their old home to move to a new location and start a new life in a new place.

While there are a lot of “horror stories” relating to agents and selling or buying homes. It would be better to prepare yourself with some detail and information about the agency or the agent. It is also important to arm yourself with the right etiquette when dealing yourself with real estate agents.

Here are several tips regarding the etiquette you should have with you during meetings and talks with these agents.

1. Always Carry a Smile – Always smile and be courteous when talking to your agent. Being pleasant to work with is a great thing and will help move things smoothly and quickly. Also, smiling at your estate agent will also help you in establishing the much sought after “rapport” between the two.

2. Avoid Being Rude – Being rude is something that is a big no-no especially in dealing with these companies and agents. Also, a buyer or a seller should remember that the agent or the real estate company is not your servants nor are they your secretary. You should just remember that they are still people and they deserve more than getting snubbed or getting some sass or some bad attitude.

3. Be Hospitable – when talking to these agents, always try to accommodate them. While not standard practice, it’s a nice show of being compassionate or being kind if you can offer coffee or anything to drink for your agent especially when they pay you a visit to discuss important matters regarding the home.

4. Stick with the same agent or company – The proper thing to do and the most important aspect of etiquette when dealing with real estate agents and real estate companies is to stick with one. That is why it is important pick carefully before you even begin talks. You should have picked the right real estate investor or agent so that you do not have to change agents in between the selling or buying a house. As the old saying go, it is most unwise to change horses’ mid-stream. If you have found the right real estate agent then go and deal accordingly.

If possible, try to screen the real estate agent that can help you out in getting your home sold or bought. Screening the right real estate agent will also help you in finding out if the agent or the person should work well with you can jibe with him or her when you have already started going down the road into marketing your home.
