School Bus Stop Shelters

By Camille Howe

If you are offering some form of public transportation system such as a bus network, however limited, it is practically essential that you also provide school bus stop shelters for passengers to use while they are waiting for the service. No matter how regular the bus service, there will still be a wait between the runs, and in inclement weather, passengers will not appreciate having to stand out in the rain or high wind while they wait for the bus to arrive.

If you are installing a number of school bus stop shelters in order to provide comfort for your passengers, there are a number of factors that you will have to consider.

The first thing to think about is the size of the shelters that you need. For limited service networks such as those around an industrial estate where the passenger numbers are relatively small, the school bus stop shelters do not need to be all that big, while on a public bus network, the shelters need to be appropriate to the number of passengers that you expect to see at each stop.

Although school bus stop shelters are maid to order, there are a number of standard features that have been built into the design including the use of corrosion resistant aluminum throughout the framework, and tempered glass for additional safety.

Passengers will typically make most use of the school bus stop shelters during rainy weather, so the most important element of the design is that it is large enough to provide cover to how ever many people are waiting for the bus at any one time. In some environments, such as northern territories where both wind and rain are problems, providing a fully enclosed shelter is advisable, as this provides much better protection for users, and prevents the wind from being too much of a problem. In hotter areas, the bus stop shelter can provide shade to avoid getting burned by the sun while waiting for a bus.

With more and more people turning to public transportation thanks to the environmental benefits that it offers above traveling in a private car. This means an increasing number of passengers, which in time requires greater investment in infrastructure in order to ensure that all the services that customers require are provided to a high standard. With passengers who are being converted into using a public transport network instead of their private car, the main things that it needs to be perceived to offer are convenience and comfort. Factors such as the quality of the school bus stop shelters are absolutely essential.

You should ensure that the shelters offer seating for enough people – this is usually achieved with the installation of a bench that can be integrated into the construction of the unit. Lighting can be added to most designs by using a solar power system that will prevent the need to connect the shelter to the mains electricity, as well as emphasizing the environmentally friendly and sustainable aspects of public transportation systems to the users.

Dorothy’s dress from Wizard of Oz sells for £140,000

Wednesday, April 27, 2005

The auction hammer came down Wednesday, in London, on Judy Garland’s blue gingham dress, worn in the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz.” It sold for £140,000 (about US$262,157.40).

The identity of the buyer, who sealed the deal on the telephone, was not immediately revealed. Bonham auctioneers told reporters there was a pre-sale estimate of £35,000 (about US$65,529.47).

The dress, one of the most recognizable in the movie world, was made for the 17-year-old Garland who had a 27-inch (68-centimetre) waist. Her name is still on a tag on an inside hem. It was auctioned as part of a sale of rock and film memorabilia and was described as a “cherished memory for millions of fans worldwide.”

The story of the “Wizard of Oz,” which sealed Garland’s legend as a worldwide star, tells the story of a young Kansan, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog Toto. They are whisked away from their rural Kansas home by a tornado to a magical realm called OZ.

In their travels, they meet other now-famous characters, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.

Although the film started with only modest success, it has since become a screen classic.

10 Tips For Keeping Pests Away From Your Home

10 Tips for Keeping Pests Away from Your Home

by

Laine McKenna

1)Always wipe your feet on a door mat outside of your home. Better, yet, stomp them to remove grime, dirt, and insects from your shoes. Ask your guests to do the same.

2)Put screens on your windows. Make sure the screens have very thin holes (as thin as you can possibly make them). Use these so you can still open your windows without the threat of allowing bugs into your home. The critters can still manage to find a way in, but this, by far, lessons the opportunity for bugs to enter your home as opposed to no screens.

3)Use mosquito nets outside your home to protect open areas on your porch and inside your garage from mosquitos. This includes your pool deck (if it s not caged in), jacuzzi, outdoor patios, dining areas, etc.

4)Use routine professional pest control to thoroughly inspect your home and spray using strong extermination equipment. Store-bought products won t operate the same, plus you re dealing with a highly-training professional who knows exactly how to use specialized equipment and will know what to look for.

5)Routinely bathe pets, whether indoors or outdoors. If your dog or cat plays outdoors or in the garage, brush and/or bathe them before they re-enter your home. Even if your animals are only allowed inside a screened-in patio or fenced in yard, you must clean them to avoid brining in unwanted insects into your home.

6)Wash dishes always. Do not let them sit in your dish drain for significant periods of time. If anything, rise dishes off with water, and then place in the dishwasher so they ll be ready to wash in a few hours.

7)Do not let food sit out inside your home for periods of time. Throw away uneaten food and soda cans (bugs love sugar). Don t leave plates around in your bedroom or living room, or on the kitchen counter.

8)Routinely clean your pantry. This should be an annual occurrence. Make sure all grains, cereal boxes, cookie jars, bread, and other perishable items are sealed air-tight. Failure to do so could result not only in ants and roaches, but also maggots.

9)If you have children, make sure they take a shower when they come home from school or from playing outside. Don t let them sit on couches without taking of their jackets and washing up.

10)Be sure to vacuum very diligently inside your home, not to miss any corners or crevices. This is especially true for carpeting.

11)Be sure to wash blankets, bedding, and mattress covers in hot water to kill off any potential bed bugs.

Apple introduces iPhone and Apple TV

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Apple Inc. today has introduced the much-anticipated iPhone at the Macworld Conference in San Francisco.

The iPhone is claimed to be “a revolutionary mobile phone” as stated on the Apple website. The device appears to be running a mobile version of the Apple operating system Mac OSX. It is approximately the same size as a 5th generation iPod, it has a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen display that is used to access all features of the phone including number dial, as well as making phone calls. The iPhone plays music, movies, displays pictures and is able to connect to a wireless network.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the device by walking onto the stage and taking the iPhone out of his jeans pocket. During his 2 hour speech he stated that “Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone, We are going to make history today”.

Today Apple also released their Media Center device – Apple TV. It will directly compete with Microsoft’s Media Center operating system. Apple has taken a different approach to the media center market; rather than storing content (such as movies, music and photos) on the device, Apple TV connects to a computer (Mac and Windows) over a wirless network connection and plays all content stored on that computer. This makes it substantially easier for users to organize their media content.

byAlma Abell

The condition of the plumbing in the home normally determines the level of comfort one will experience in the home. When the plumbing is done in the right manner, the supply of water and removal of wastes from the house runs smoothly. On the other hand, when the plumbing is poor water supply and drainage will be poor. To maintain good plumbing, you have to ensure that proper maintenance is done at all times. Here are some tips that can help you achieve the best results with drain cleaning in Bloomington MN.

There are several methods that are used in cleaning the drain. The effectiveness of the method depends on the type of drain and the cause of the clog.

*Using of household cleaning agents such as baking soda and vinegar: This is mainly a DIY cleaning method. To clean the drain using these ingredients, you should start by pouring hot water down the drain. This should be followed by some baking soda. Allow the soda to stay in the drain for a few minutes. After a few minutes, add the vinegar together with very hot water. This is the ideal method of removing clogs resulting from oil. Other common household items that can be used in cleaning the drain include sugar and oil.

*Using a drain snake: This is a more effective way of cleaning the drain, especially if the drain has a more serious clog. The drain snake is a coiled spiral snake whose thickness is about ¼ of an inch. It has a handle on one end. You push the snake into the drainpipe; the movement of the snake tears apart the blockage and makes it possible for you to pull it out. There are snakes that can be attached to the electric outlet to spin and remove the clog.
