BDSM as business: Interviews with Dominatrixes

Sunday, October 28, 2007

Whether the Civil War, World War II or the Iraq War, it can be challenging to face how conflict penetrates the psyche of a nation and surfaces in the nuances of life. There are thousands—if not millions—of individuals who indulge in fantasies others would deem perverse that have their nascence in some of the darkest moments of human history. It is possible someone you know pays a person to dress like a German Nazi to treat them like a “dirty Jew”, or to force them to pick cotton off the floor like a slave.

An S&M dungeon is a place where these individuals act out such taboos. Businesses that operate to meet their needs are often hidden, but they do exist and are typically legal. The clients want to remain confidential for fear of ostracism in their respective communities. As Sigmund Freud wrote, “Anyone who has violated a taboo becomes taboo himself because he possesses the dangerous quality of tempting others to follow his example.”

Last week Wikinews published the first in a two part series on the BDSM business: an interview with Bill & Rebecca, the owners of Rebecca’s Hidden Chamber. This week we publish the second part: an interview with three dungeon employees, Mistress Alex, Mistress Jada and Mistress Veronica. In their world, BDSM is a game, a harmless pursuit of roleplaying exercises that satiate the desires of the tabooed. These Dominatrixes are the kind of women men fantasize about, but they all look like they could be babysitting your children this Saturday night. Most likely, they will not be.

Mistress Alex has a distinctive sheen when David Shankbone walks into the room. Her moist skin cools quickly from the blow of the air conditioner she stands in front of. Just having finished an hour and a half session, she is dressed in a latex one-piece skirt and matching boots. Mistress Jada, a shapely Latina dressed in red, joins the conversation and remains throughout. When Alex needs to tend to a client, Mistress Veronica, who looks like she would be as comfortable teaching kindergarten as she would “tanning a man’s hide”, takes over for her.

The interview was neither sensational nor typical, but what you read may surprise, repulse, or even awaken feelings you never knew you had. Below is David Shankbone’s interview with three Dominatrixes.

Women’s And Men’s Leather Motorcycle Jackets And Their Textile And Mesh Counterparts.

By Dominik Hussl

Mens leather jackets for motorcycle riders have always been available in many designs and forms, however recently women’s leather motorcycle have also become available. These jackets are especially made to fit a ladies figure. Before this women riders had to make do with a small leather jacket that was designed for a mans physique and not a woman, therefore a perfect fit was never achieved. Most manufactures of apparel these days have recognized that more women are riding bikes then ever before as well as the fact that they have been passengers for a long time and where never properly addressed. Well that has now changed and women can now choose from many a motorcycle leather jacket.

Leather has always been the preferred choice of material for a jacket. The leather offers protection from road rash. That is if quality materials are used and stitched together and re enforced properly. We recommend you buy all your apparel from a brand name manufacture. This insures that you are truly going to get some protection out of the jacket because it will be made from quality material, where as you can buy cheap leather jackets made in Pakistan and India for a lot less but you will find that most of these are a very inferior product compared to a Icon, Agv Sport or an Arlen Ness piece. You should be able to find a quality men’s or women’s motorcycle leather jacket from any of those manufacturers.

Textile and Mesh are the newest thing in motorcycle jackets where as before these highly durable materials were introduced the best you could do to get a warm weather riding jacket was too get a leather perforated one. The perforations are designed to let air pass thru while still giving you protection. Now with new mesh and textile materials made from Kevlar and the like you can get almost the same protection from a jacket made from Mesh then a leather piece. These new materials have a high abrasion resistance and do not tear easily. Also most of the garments made from the mare double stitched to prevent a tear at the seams. Icon as well as Agvsport and Alpinestars make some quality mesh and textile motorcycle riding jackets for men and women both.

So now a days you have a choice in materials. Decide whichever suits your needs best and is going to be the most comfortable to wear. Comfort is very important when it comes to riding apparel since if you do not feel comfortable in the item you are not likely to wear it in the long run. Personally I have two jackets one from mesh and one from leather, that way when its cold outside I can wear the thicker leather one that also has a insulated insert to help keep me warm and on warm days I can wear the mesh one and have all the protection as well as comfort to ride all day. I do have to admit I prefer the look of my leather motorcycke jacket to the mesh just because it’s a more old school look.

Man wakes up from coma after 19 years

Monday, June 4, 2007

Jan Grzewski, 65, a former railroad worker from Poland fell into a coma after being hit by a train while attaching two rail cars in 1988. Nineteen years later today, Grzewski has finally awaken.

“I wake up at 7 a.m. and I watch TV. I could not talk or do anything, now it’s much better,” said Grzewski.

After Grzewski fell into a coma, doctors also diagnosed him with brain cancer, giving him little chance to survive. Gertruda, Grzewski’s wife, has been caring for him ever since in their home in Poland.

In 2006, Gertruda began to notice Grzewski attempting to talk, and took him back to the hospital. Less than two months later, Grzewski awoke from his coma.

Grzewski was injured when Poland was still a communist nation. He remembers seeing only “tea and vinegar” on the shelves of stores.

“When I went into a coma, there was only tea and vinegar in the shops. Meat was rationed and there were huge petrol queues everywhere. Now I see people on the streets with cellphones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin,” added Grzewski.

US automaker bailout deal fails to pass Senate

Friday, December 12, 2008

A US$14 billion bailout package deal for the “Big Three” United States automakers — Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors — has been rejected in the United States Senate after failing a procedural vote.

The bill was rejected after bipartisan discussions on the bailout broke down when Republican Party leaders insisted that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union agree to increase wage cuts by next year in order to bring their pay into line with those of Japanese automobile companies in the United States. The UAW refused to meet the demands.

The final vote count in the Senate was 52-35, eight short of the 60 needed to pass. Only ten Republicans joined forty Democrats and two independents in voting for the bill. Three Democrats voted with thirty-one Republicans against it.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said that he was “terribly disappointed” by the failure of the bill to pass. “I dread looking at Wall Street tomorrow. It’s not going to be a pleasant sight,” Reid said. “Millions of Americans, not only the auto workers but people who sell cars, car dealerships, people who work on cars are going to be directly impacted and affected.”

Republican Senator Bob Corker was also unhappy about the rejection. “We were about three words away from a deal. We solved everything substantively and about three words keep us from reaching a conclusion,” he said.

Some Democrats now want U.S. President Bush to reserve a portion of the $700 billion bailout package earmarked for Wall Street to assist the flagging car industry.

Stock markets worldwide fell dramatically on the news, with Japan’s Nikkei average losing 484.68 points, or 5.6 percent, reaching a level of 8253.87 points. Shares in the auto companies Toyota, Nissan and Honda all dropped by no less than 10 percent apiece. European stocks, such as those in the United Kingdom and Germany, also lost ground, with the FTSE-100 index of leading shares falling 176.3 points to a level of 4,211 at midday.

Friday, June 2, 2006

Buffalo, New York —In a statement, attorney Arthur Giacalone in charege of the case, Nancy Pollina et al opposing Savarino’s Elmwood Village Hotel, who is co-owner with Patty Morris of Don Apparel at 1109 Elmwood in Buffalo, New York has said that the preliminary hearing in New York State Supreme Court has been delayed.

“The court appearance has been adjourned for two weeks to 6/22,” said Giacalone.

The Elmwood Village Hotel is a 72-room, seven-million-dollar hotel proposed by Savarino Construction Services Corporation and designed by architect Karl Frizlen of the Frizlen Group. Its construction would require the demolition of at least five buildings, currently at 1109-1121 Elmwood, which house several shops and residents. Although the properties are “under contract,” it is still not known whether Savarino Construction actually owns the buildings. It is believed that Hans Mobius, a resident of Clarence, New York and former Buffalo mayoral candidate, is still the owner. The hotel is expected to be a franchise of the Wyndham Hotels group.

Buffalo’s Common Council, Planning Board, Mayor of Buffalo, Byron W. Brown, Savarino Construction Services Corporation, Hans J. Mobius and his son Hans S. Mobius owners of the properties at stake, Pano Georgiadis, owner of Pano’s Restaurant on Elmwood, and Cendant Corporation, the parent company of Wyndham Hotels are among those named in the suit.

According to Giacalone, the city of Buffalo has requested two week extension to prepare their defense. Area councelman Joseph Golombek has been contacted to further confirm the date change request, but has not yet responded.

Qualities Of An Excellent Paint Contractor

By Sheryll Cross

If your bedroom or your kitchen needs a serious painting job, try to provide one. True enough, painting your house can mean trouble when you do it all alone, without any professional help. Well, it’s time that you seek assistance of an expert house painter in your area. When searching for one, through your neighbors or through the Internet, you should spot these qualities.

An excellent paint contractor will never hesitate to show his previous projects. He may even show you his latest works and give you telephone numbers as references. If he refused, you should doubt about his integrity as a professional. Also, you may interview his past clients and ask what kind of a painter he is.

You should look for a paint contractor who cares about your property and belongings. First, he must clear out all the furniture and accessories where he’ll begin the painting job. This way your stuff will be free from damages and paint drips. Taking everything off the walls is also necessary for smoother and faster jobs. If some stuff in the area cannot be moved out, they should be covered with cloth individually and with plastic to cover everything up.

An excellent paint contractor maintains his work as neat as possible, and his things fully organized. Would you want an untidy person working in your home? He may bring danger if his painting tools are lying anywhere. He should be keeping his tools and equipment organized so that clutter will never interfere with his work. A messy and untidy work area can bring more pressure and may affect the quality of a painter’s project. That is why it is important that a painter is organized.

You must find a work contractor who knows how to commit. If his painting schedule is five days a week, he should be working on five total days – no more, no less. This will prevent delays. When it was agreed that his job should be done in two weeks, it should be done in two weeks. Otherwise there will be additional schedules, and maybe additional costs, that may become burdens for you.

A reasonable paint contractor will set an agreement, and does his best to comply with the agreement. The contract will be the guide for the both of you. If a painter never deviates from your agreement, he is fulfilling his duties to serve you within the boundaries of the contract, which is, of course, more than good enough.

The paint contractor should be creative – this is a must. He can always use the power of colors at his will, but will also consider your requests and orders. At the beginning of the project, both of you should have agreed upon a certain color or colors to use for the interior or exterior house painting.

Communication is always the key to every transaction and business. Observe from your first meeting with a contractor if he knows how to listen and he knows how to speak. A paint contractor who doesn’t know how to communicate will more likely do not open up problems regarding his painting project.
