How Do I Prepare For A Cardiac Stress Test?

By Kurt Lehmann

Do you have a cardiac stress test scheduled? If so, you may have some questions about how to properly prepare for the test. Don’t worry! The preparations are simple. You don’t need to do much… The preparation for a cardiac stress test is fairly simple and straight forward (there’s no studying required, the most important thing is that you show up on time).

There are a few additional things you need to consider before your cardiac stress test. First, you will need to avoid any stimulant for at least three hours prior to testing. Stimulants include caffeine which can be found in chocolate, tea, soda and coffee. There are also some pain relievers that contain caffeine and those need to be avoided as well. Alcohol is another stimulant that you need to avoid for at least three hours prior to testing.

You will want to continue all medications unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise. In most cases if you take a prescription medication that is used to control the heart rate your doctor may have you hold this medication for 24 hours prior to testing. The reason for this is that part of the cardiac stress test is to increase your heart rate to your target rate and keep you there to monitor the activity of your heart.

Make sure that you go to the appointment in comfortable clothes. Clothing that is breathable, easy for you to move in and comfortable. Make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes that will be able to walk and possibly jog in as the levels of intensity in the exercise increases.

Men will need to tell their doctor and or technician whether or not they have taken any medications to combat erectile dysfunction in the last twenty four hours. The reason for this is because if you experience any chest pain during testing and nitroglycerin needs to be given the combination of medications such as Viagra and nitroglycerin can be dangerous if not deadly.

You should be able to drive yourself to and from your cardiac stress test. Depending on the type of cardiac stress test you have done will determine the amount of time the test will take. Treadmill stress tests can last about 45 minutes start to finish, stress echocardiograms can last a little over an hour and nuclear stress test last about 4 hours.

If you are diabetic you will want to have a snack before your testing, especially if you are going to have the nuclear stress test done. Eating a light meal the morning of your test is acceptable, making sure that you are not eating a heavy meal which could lead to nausea and vomiting due to the full stomach and exercise.

It is always advisable that you take with you a complete list of all medications, the dosage that you take and how often you take them. If you have any questions that have not been answered yet, make sure to take those questions with you to the test and the nurse, doctor or technician will be able to answer them for you.

Several injured at campground in Maine as storm topples trees

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

A family of six were injured at Flat Rock Bridge Family Resort and campground in Lebanon, Maine after a severe thunderstorm caused trees to topple, with one landing on a tent. A 10-year-old girl was critically injured after a tree fell on the tent she was sleeping in. Witnesses say the girl was pinned under the tree for at least 10 minutes before they were able to remove it.

Witnesses also say the day was beautiful and sunny, but at around 6:00 p.m. (EDT) a storm rolled in, darkening the sky, followed by heavy winds and rain. Witnesses describe a “funnel-like wind” which lifted items off the ground and threw them around. The strong winds then brought down trees and limbs, with one landing on the family’s campsite and tent. Severe lightning was also reported.

“The female patient was loaded into Lebanon Ambulance One and transported to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester to be stabilized and then was transferred to the trauma center at Maine Medical Center. Her injuries were considered critical and life threatening when she left the scene,” said Jason Cole, the assistant rescue chief for the area. The victims names have not been released and the girl’s current condition is not yet known.

Rescuers responding to the scene noticed several other trees and limbs scattered around other campsites and searched all 350 sites, but no other injuries were reported. Other campers say they had several close calls with tree limbs and debris. At least 12 trees were reported to have toppled during the storm. The family’s car was also destroyed when a tree limb landed on it.

The National Weather Service in Maine says it will investigate whether or not the storm produced a tornado.

Strong winds and heavy rain across southern UK

Monday, March 10, 2008

The southern United Kingdom has experienced heavy rains and strong winds, with approximately 10,000 homes now without power. In addition to damage to property, many journeys have been disrupted, as a result of cancelled flights, in addition to closed roads and rail tracks.

The UK Met Office described the current conditions by saying that “the Met Office continues to expect an intense low pressure system to move east across the UK during Monday, bringing severe gales and potentially damaging gusts across some areas, more particularly the west and south of England and Wales. Southerly winds are expected to strengthen during the early hours of Monday to give severe gales for a time, coinciding with the morning rush hour in some areas.”

Take Care Of Computer Security For Teen At Home

Submitted by: Le Tuan Anh

Do you ever feel like you know just enough about computer security for teen to be dangerous? Let’s see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from computer security for teen experts.

We live in a world that is increasingly dependent upon computers and the Internet in order to achieve even the most modest of tasks that once would have taken a drive to the library. This drive to the library could have taken anywhere from a matter of minutes and a cursory glance through the card catalog or hours spent sifting through dusty shelves and outdated collections of books in order to find relevant information to the topic being researched.

Unfortunately, the clear advantages of the information age, such as ready access to information twenty four hours a day seven days a week with just the click of a few keys is also proving to be a logistical nightmare when it comes to safeguarding the security of homes and businesses around the world. There is so much information floating around in cyberspace and we unwittingly contribute even more information each and every time we enter a phone number, address, or bank account number into our computers. The problem is that we often need to enter these things in order to get the information or merchandise we require from our computers.

To safeguard your children from Internet predators and material that simply isn’t appropriate for their viewing needs enable parental controls on the computer. Your children may protest but a few hours of their complaints is well worth the peace of mind you have knowing that nothing should be getting through that you don’t want them to view. This will result in some uproarious moments as favorite websites may be tagged for ridiculous reasons you’ll have to take those on a case-by-case basis and decide whether or not you want to allow your children access to these sites that are often tagged with no real reason or inappropriateness. No system is perfect but doing nothing would be far worse.

If your computer security for teen facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important computer security for teen information slip by you.

Another thing you should do in order to more closely monitor their Internet activity is keep the computer in a centralized area in the home rather than allowing them to bring computers into the privacy of their bedrooms where they are unobserved. You should also keep in mind that even the best and brightest among us are quite likely to be outshone by our children when it comes to computer savvy. Do not trust that minimal efforts will net the big results you are hoping to achieve.

Discuss proper online safety procedures with your children, especially your teens. Remind them of these things on a regular basis and drill it into them. Safety is the most important thing when having discussions online, in chat rooms, or even in weblogs and websites. It is amazing how much information is accidentally given away through conversations that would never have been given away if direct questions had been asked in order to get that information.

For this reason it is even more important that you stress the urgency of secrecy on the Internet. Team names, practice times, school names, and sports participation should be kept to a minimum on the Internet as all of these things can be used in order to isolate and identify your teen. Photos should also be limited in all honesty, particularly those in cheer leading or ball team uniforms that can easily be used to identify location as well as those that include car tags and other relevant information that is identifying in nature. While this may seem harsh to your teen it is much better to be harsh with them than go through the heartache and uncertainty of a missing teen or worse because of Internet predators.

The safety of your teen is the most important thing you can protect on your home computer and if you do not make him or her aware of the risks he or she will not take those risks seriously. Part of home security is protecting your family members from themselves as much as it is to protect them from the world outside.

There’s a lot to understand about computer security for teen. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

We’ll always have .paris: ICANN votes for top level domain registration in 2009

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non-profit organisation based in California, United States to regulate internet domain names, will vote on Thursday for a proposal to allow the open registration of top-level domains (TLDs) for Internet addresses. If the proposal succeeds, then as soon as next year any entity with sufficient funds may be able to apply for ownership of a relevant TLD, so that, for example, web sites could have addresses ending in .paris, .ebay or .love.

The range of TLDs has traditionally been heavily restricted by ICANN, with most being country codes (such as .uk for the United Kingdom, or .jp for Japan) or related to the purpose of a website (like .com for commercial websites, .edu for educational sites, and .org for non-profit organisations).

Some existing owners of TLDs have already set up arrangements that have made use of their flexibility – for example, the countries of Tuvalu and the Federated States of Micronesia have leased many domains on their country code TLDs (.tv and .fm respectively) to entertainment websites based on the association with “television” and “FM radio”.

Commentators have pointed out that this may open the way for the controversial .xxx domain, proposed for sites with adult content, which ICANN has previously rejected. Its existence will not be guaranteed in the new system, however, as domain registration will be subject to an independent arbitration process, and granted only when the registrant can demonstrate “a business plan and technical capability”, and applications may be rejected on “morality or public order” grounds. While the proposal does not include registration fees, the TLDs are predicted to cost several thousand dollars, at least.

ICANN CEO Paul Twomey, speaking with the BBC, compared the opening of domains to the opening of real estate in the United States in the 19th century. “It’s a massive increase in the geography of the real estate of the Internet,” he said.

The ICANN International Public Meeting, which opened in Paris, France on Monday, includes workshops and public forums as well as the ICANN Board meeting.

Cosmetic Dental Procedures Offered By A Dentist In Island Heights

byAlma Abell

Everyone dreams of having a perfect set of teeth and a beautiful smile. However, there are several things that make this impossible. These factors include:

* Teeth discoloration from smoking, excessive fluoride and too much coffee

* Naturally misaligned teeth, impacted teeth, and conditions such as cleft lips

* Chipped teeth and broken teeth

* Missing teeth as a result of injuries and tooth decay

The great thing about dental health-care is that it has really improved of late. It is now possible to fix almost every dental problem that you can think of. Here are some cosmetic dental procedures offered by a dentist in Island Heights.

Dental implants

Dental implants are used to replace teeth that have been lost. Basically, the process involves getting a titanium structure that resembles a root and attaching it to the jawbone. The dentist then allows the implant to be integrated to the bone before he can attach the piece where the crown will be attached to. The whole process takes about six months. However, after the completion of the process, you will have perfect looking new teeth.

Teeth polishing and whitening

Whitening and polishing are used to try and fix teeth that have gotten discolored, chipped or broken. In whitening, the dentist may decide to use procedures such as micro-abrasions to remove the stained coating. Other whitening procedures include laser treatments and bleaches. A cosmetic dentist will treat your discoloration until you achieve a beautiful white smile. Visit website for more

Veneers and teeth aligners

There are certain cases of teeth discoloration and chipping that cannot be treated by simple polishing. In such cases, the dentist may find it simpler to get veneers to cover your teeth. Veneers are porcelain covers that are applied on top of the real tooth to hide the flaws on the real tooth. Aligners on the other hand are meant to fix misaligned teeth. Modern alignment involves the use of Invisalign, aligners that are colorless as compared to the conventional dental wires or braces.

Those are just a few of the cosmetic dentistry procedures that are available in the market. To get that perfect smile, you have to contact a reliable dentist in Island Heights. Visit Shorefamilydental.com to book a visit or get more information.

UK jets shadow Russian bombers

Thursday, September 6, 2007

Four F3 Tornado fighter jets were launched by the United Kingdom‘s Royal Air Force to intercept Russian military planes. The eight Russian jets were flying in airspace patrolled by Nato, officials from the UK claimed. The long-range bombers were initially followed by Norwegian F16 jets, after Russia’s recent decision to reinstate Cold War-style long-range patrols.

14 strategic bombers were flying on long-range patrol, according to Russia’s Defence Ministry. They also confirmed that none had approached a foreign state and had been shadowed by aircraft from Nato countries.

The Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom released a statement that the Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear aircraft, flying in four loosed pairs, were tracked by Norwegian aircraft before entering Nato airspace on Thursday morning. The UK currently holds responsibility for the Nato airspace, and launched four F3 Tornados from RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire, UK, to identify the bombers. The bombers eventually left the Nato zone, under tracking by UK aircraft and RAF radar in Northumberland.

An MoD spokesman confirmed that Russia was entitled to its long-range patrols, adding ‘The motivation behind any Russian military activity is a matter for the Russian government.’ Lt Col John Inge Oegland, spokesman for the Norwegian armed forces, said there had been several similar incidents in recent months, but that the Russian flights were not causing alarm in Norway.

Relations between Britain and Russia have worsened recently, particularly after Russia’s refusal to allow the extradition of a former KGB bodyguard suspected of murdering emigre Alexander Litvinenko in London last year. Relations with Russia would “continue as normal outside the unresolved extradition request”, a UK Foreign Office spokesman said.

FEMA accused of misusing trained disaster workers as public-relations workers

Monday, September 12, 2005

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is being criticized for misallocation of personnel in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. FEMA representatives said they requested volunteers from fire departments around the U.S., to handle its community relations campaign. However, a document FEMA sent to local fire departments asked for firefighters with very specific skills and who were capable of working in “austere conditions”. Fire departments around the nation responded by sending crews to the FEMA staging ground in Atlanta. Some of these crews were unaware that they were only going to be used for public relations work. Others, however, merely hoped that FEMA would allocate them to rescue and damage control operations once it saw their qualifications.

The firefighter’s objections are particularly poignant as one of FEMA public relations training seminars coincided with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin plea for firefighters on national television, to relieve his own exhausted crews. It is unclear if FEMA’s request for firefighters prevented any municipalities from responding to Mayor Nagin’s request.

Some firefighters have objected to their use as FEMA public relations officers because their municipalities must bear the cost of their salaries, as well as endure reduced firefighting capacity. FEMA has stated that it sought to use firefighters to avoid background checks required of federal employees.

Firefighters began receiving their assignments Monday, September 5th. Among these was a crew of 50 assigned to tour the devastated areas with President Bush and the press.
