Our Words Are Powerful…They Can Change Your Life

By Kent Holden

My husband and I have been on a journey of learning and discovery during the past several years. We have attended excellent seminars, and learned many things from some outstanding mentors and coaches. Some of the things we learned include: the importance of continuing to learn, grow and having coaches/mentors along our journey; the importance of applying our new found knowledge and how challenging that can sometimes be; and how much our words and thoughts play a big role in how we feel, how we see the world, and what we believe about ourselves, others and our future.

The more we learn, the more we realize there is so much more to learn!

One of my most powerful learnings was that our brain sees in “pictures”. Our brain changes everything we hear into pictures. (I used to tell people a way to remember my name, Robin Bair, is to think of a big grizzly bear with a Robin red-breast bird sitting on its shoulder. This gave them a silly picture to remember my name with and it usually worked!)

Heres an example of what I mean. Have you ever told a child: “Dont run” or “Dont hit your brother”? Generally speaking, they dont stop doing it instantly. Why not? I have learned this past year that there are some words the brain does not have a picture for words like dont, not, no, cant, etc. Since their brain does not register the word dont (a negative word), in essence you are actually telling the child “TO run” or “TO hit your brother” which was not what youd intended at all! Whats the solutionto rephrase the sentence and tell the child what you want them TO do.

I experimented with this concept recently with one of one of our eight grandchildren who is a real climber and daredevil, just like her mother. Id find her standing on the folding chairs or table in the kitchen. My first response was to say, “Dont climb on the chair/table”, and of course, she would continue anyway, with a sparkle in her eye. Changing my wording to “Sit on the chair” or “Stay off the table” had amazing results. At first shed look at me, but when I repeated the statement more firmly it worked! She stopped!

Another good example of this concept is when you remind yourself or someone else: “Dont forget to ” What usually happens? Thats right, usually you/they forget to do whatever. But you can change the outcome by changing the sentence to “Remember to” Its really that simple. Its amazing how using a positive, what TO do statement will assist your listener in seeing the picture you really want them to see.

The most challenging part in learning this lesson is changing how I word what I say on a daily basis. Our words are VERY important! Imagine how different your life will be by simply practicing this one concept, which is telling children and others what you want them TO do and eliminate the negative, which is something we want to do in all parts of our life!

I have learned many more things. Because of our new understanding of how words work, we have become more kind and loving towards each other and ourselves. Remember, the words we speak and the pictures those words create are very important. I think this concept is a great one to start practicing in your own life today. So start practicing painting positive pictures today!

Pennsylvania cop on trial for allegedly murdering girlfriend’s estranged husband

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

The trial began today for a Pennsylvania state trooper accused of killing his girlfriend’s estranged husband.

Kevin Foley, 43, is accused of cutting the throat of John Yelenic, a dentist who was in the final stages of finalizing a divorce from his wife, Michele. According to prosecutors, Foley “loathed Dr. Yelenic” so much that he asked another fellow trooper to help him commit the alleged murder, which occurred in Yelenic’s Blairsville home.

Deputy Attorney General Anthony Krastek told an Indiana County jury that Foley also prayed Yelenic would die, and spread false rumors that Yelenic molested his adopted son.

“You will see Kevin Foley has the motive, the opportunity and the ability to commit this crime, almost to the exclusion of anybody else,” Krastek said.

Foley’s defense attorney, Jeffrey Monzo, said during opening statements that DNA evidence was not conclusive. Monzo admitted to the jury that Foley did not like Yelenic, but said that does not mean he murdered him.

“Kevin Foley is innocent,” he said.

Prosecutors said they could call as many as 70 witnesses to try and prove Foley wanted Yelenic to die. The trial, at the Indiana County Courthouse, is expected to last about three weeks.

Foley, who is on unpaid suspension from the Pennsylvania State Police, is charged with criminal homicide. The jury has the option of convicting him of first-degree murder, which could put Foley in prison for life without parole, or of a lesser degree charge, like manslaughter.

John Yelenic was found dead in his home on April 13, 2006, one day before he was planning on signing his divorce papers. Prosecutors said Foley killed Yelenic after going to the dentist’s house to confront him over the terms of the divorce. Prosecutors claim Foley slashed Yelenic several times with a knife and pushed his head through a small window, causing a further gash on his neck. Yelenic bled to death.

Foley had been living with Michele Yelenic for two years at the time of the alleged homicide. Krastek said Michele also helped perpetuate rumors that Dr. Yelenic molested their son. John and Michele Yelenic had been separated in 2002. Michele Yelenic stood to collect Dr. Yelenic’s estate and a $1 million life insurance policy, and could lose about $2,500 a month in support if the divorce was finalized, a Pennsylvania grand jury previously determined.

Michele Yelenic is expected to testify that Foley was home with her when the alleged murder occurred. Krastek told the jury DNA under Yelenic’s fingerprints will ultimately link him to the murder, as will bloody shoe prints found at the crime scene that match athletic shoes Foley is known to wear.

Monzo also said authorities have failed to investigate several other suspects, including Yelenic’s neighbor. Monzo said Yelenic was on very friendly terms with the neighbor’s wife, which could have given him a motive to commit the murder.

Prior to the trial, Foley’s defense attorneys unsuccessfully sought a change of venue because an overwhelming majority of the jury pool was familiar with the allegations. The change was denied when jurors insisted they had not formed an opinion about the charges.

Kimi Räikkönen will start first for 2007 European Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton suffers a crash

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen won the pole on the FIA Formula-1 2007 European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, Nürburg, Germany.

Kimi’s rival Fernando Alonso split the two Ferraris and will start between Kimi and Felipe Massa.

Lewis Hamilton suffered a serious crash in the third qualifying session after his tire broke in Schumacher‘s S-curve and he found himself out of the track running at a tangent to the safety wall. Race officials confirmed that Lewis had been “conscious and speaking”. Still, there are reasonable doubts about his fitness for the race Sunday.

BMW Sauber team drivers 4th and 5th, Mark Webber from Red Bull-Renault 6th, Heikki Kovalainen from Renault 7th and Toyota‘s 8th and 9th.

Before this incident Lewis was fifth, but dropped two the tenth place and will probably lose more with the car change if he’ll participate in the race. It seemes that his incretible series of 9 consecutive pole finishes have come to an end.

The race will feature Marcus Winkelhock, the German driver replacing Christijan Albers in Spyker.

Nonwoven Bags Are More Dangerous Than Plastic Bags

Since the plastic limit is put into practice, the businessman makes the bag as a promotional magic – bags become gifts when people buy food ,beverage bags and a magazine, or pay phone charges. These bags are easy- use, colorful, cute, it is popular among many consumers. But many people concerns that, since the widespread use of bags, when they participate in activities, go shopping, etc., they always receive free bags. Now there are many kinds of bags in houses and it seems too much. These bags are donated, old. Once broken, it will be readily thrown away.” Consumers believe that the quality of present bags are not so good, especially the nonwoven bags. Its robustness is worse than textile fabrics. Some are even bad than plastic bags, and they are not waterproof. Non-woven bags are easily cleaves from the right angle direction. The bags are so easily broken and thrown away frequently. Do they really play an environmental role? Now most of the bags are nonwoven bags. The raw materials are polypropylene or terephthalate glycol ester. But the raw materials of plastic bags are polyethylene .Polypropylene and polyethylene both are not degraded less than 50 years. When the temperature is high, polypropylene will release harmful substances. The weight and volume of non-woven bags is higher than normal plastic bags, it reaches more than 10 times. At the same time, some non-woven bags are decorated with buttons, sequins and some other small parts which can not be recycled. In conclusion, non-woven bags are not environmental than plastic bags which can be recyclable, and easily crushed. There are many companies and enterprises make the bags as gifts to do advertising, the one that covers t a layer of resin outside or with color pattern are not environmentally friendly. And the real green bags ask higher producing costs. Many people also say, plastic limit does not make the use of plastic bags in a limitation. And the one which is not biodegradable bags has spread to everywhere. People suggest that relevant departments should make clear about the requirements of the quality of recycle bags and make a seriously strict law to make it effect. In addition, experts advise that, non-woven material itself is plastic. If it is used in a long period with slow degradation process, the potential crisis is much danger than plastic bags. It may become another great pollution source as plastic bags. Source: www.cnmhc.com

Hope fades for families of trapped Mexican miners

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Almost 600 desperate family members and others remained camped outside the Pasta de Conchos coal mine near San Juan de Sabinas, in the northern Mexico state of Coahuila where 65 Mexican miners were trapped by a gas explosion around 2:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) Sunday. Some are threatening to storm the mine while soldiers are trying to keep them calm and rescuers continue to pick through the rock and debris with hand tools, fearing that any power equipment might set off another explosion.

The local newspaper’s headline caused panic by quoting one of over a dozen surviving miners who were close enough to the exits to escape: “They are surely dead,” (La Prensa de Monclova). However, Arturo Vilchis, Civil Protection Director, refused to speculate on the condition of the miners, while Javier de la Fuente, an engineering contractor with mine owner Grupo México S.A. de C.V. also tried to hold out some hope.

The men were each supposed to be carrying oxygen tanks, each with a six hour supply, and there’s some hope that they could reach other oxygen supply tanks, or that some air might be reaching them through the ventilation shafts into which rescuers have been pumping more oxygen since shortly after the explosion.

Juan Rebolledo, vice president of international affairs for Grupo México, assured onlookers that U.S. mining experts were on the way, and officials at the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration have confirmed that they’ve sent a specialized equipment truck and several mining experts which should arrive at the mine site on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile Consuelo Aguilar, a spokeswoman for the National Miners’ Union, called for an investigation into Grupo México’s responsibility for the disaster. Pedro Camarillo, a federal labor official, said nothing unusual was found during a routine evaluation in early February.

Two ill after eating burgers laced with multi-purpose cleaner in Bathurst, Australia

Thursday, March 25, 2010

A prank by three young kitchen staff at Hungry Jack’s fast food restaurant in the Central-Western New South Wales city of Bathurst went wrong when two customers required medical treatment after eating burgers they had laced with multi-purpose cleaner.

According to staff at the Emergency Department of Bathurst Hospital, two Hungry Jack’s customers became ill Sunday night after eating burgers contaminated with a chemical believed to be multi-purpose cleaner. One of the patrons was in a serious condition upon arrival at Bathurst Hospital due to being allergic to an ingredient in the cleaning product. “He presented to the emergency department as he was having an allergic reaction after eating a burger from Hungry Jacks, he was in a really bad way when he arrived here and if he had waited much longer it could have been much worse,” said a Greater Western Area Health Service employee. “We called Hungry Jacks and they said that three of their employees had been goofing off and sprayed multi-purpose cleaner inside the burgers so we then treated the patients for poisoning.”

Both customers are expected to make a full recovery. During an investigation undertaken by Wikinews reporter Nathan Carter, it was learned that the chemical sprayed into the burgers was KAY multipurpose cleaner which is reported to cause nausea, diarrhoea and mucosal and gastric irritation. The Material Safety Data Sheet for KAY multipurpose cleaner lists Antonic Surfactants as its hazardous ingredient.

In New South Wales, it is a criminal offence to make food intended for sale unsafe punishable by 2 years imprisonment. Due to restrictions on the publication of the name of young people involved in crimes in New South Wales, the names of kitchen staff can not be published. Wikinews was told by Hungry Jack’s staff that the staff involved in the incident remained employed by Hungry Jack’s. Josh, a Hungry Jack’s manager at the Bathurst restaurant, told Wikinews that his boss Adam was aware of the food contamination issue and would be taking steps to address it.

Review Of Obagi And The Company’s Skin Care Product

By Trevor Price

Obagi Product Skin Care systems are quickly becoming one of the most prescribed products in a dermatologist’s arsenal. Obagi is essentially a take-home chemical peel that’s designed to remove the upper layer of the epidermis, encourage skin cell growth and reveal brighter and clearer new skin.

It’s designed for both young women battling acne and older women battling the signs of aging. However, does it work? To learn more and for a concise review of the system, keep reading.

Cost

The Obagi skin care collection doesn’t come cheap, nor is the prescription-only product covered by most drug plans. Expect to pay about $300 initially for the first six week system and then about $1200 a year for ongoing maintenance. Because of the cost, many patients opt instead to do in-office treatments.

Quality of the Product

Because Obagi’s skin care system must be inspected and approved by the FDA, it is held to a much higher standard than over-the-counter commercial products. So, overall, the quality of Obagi is impressive.

Because Obagi is a prescribed drug, the potency levels are significantly higher than over-the-counter creams. Therefore, it’s imperative to go over the system thoroughly with your dermatologist before making use of it at home. If you’re at all concerned about potential allergic reactions to Obagi, ask your dermatologist for a small sample.

Results

When the product is applied correctly and with care, Obagi product skin care systems are effective. However, they’re only effective if you maintain use of the product. Once you stop using the system, you will begin to lose its prior benefit.

Obagi is expensive, so if the results aren’t long-lasting, that can turn potential patients off. As a result, many are choosing treatments such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing as alternate options.

Buying Obagi Without a Your Doctor’s Knowledge

Obagi is a prescription skin care system – that means you need a prescription from your dermatologist to purchase it. However, determined buyers can find Obagi online without a prescription.

Buying Obagi skin care products without a prescription is not only dangerous, but it’s also illegal. In addition, the market is flooded with fakes and counterfeits, which is a serious risk when purchasing from anyone other than a licensed pharmacy.

Conclusion on Obagi Skin Care

Obagi skin care may be a great system that produces phenomenal results, but if those results don’t last in the long term, customers are going to tire of having to pay for ongoing maintenance products.

If you’re serious about skin rejuvenation, try an in-office treatment or treating yourself to a series of facials. When it comes to skin care, Obagi product skin care systems may not be worth it.

However, if you do go for it, just use the product prudently within the context of the consultation of your dermatologist, and avoid the temptation to hurry the process by using it more frequently than for which it is design. Otherwise, you may do more harm than goo.

Things To Keep In Mind While Buying Property In Lucknow Under Rera}

Submitted by: Rajeev Kapoor

The Real Estate Regulation & Development (RERA) Act, which was introduced on May 1, 2017, is considered to bring massive changes in Indian real estate industry. The main objective of the act is to facilitate the home buying process and bring transparency between the developers and customers. RERA would bring relief to customers, increase foreign direct investment (FDI) and developers working on existing projects need to register with RERA within three months. As soon as the housing project gets registered, all the relevant information and facts about the project must be uploaded on the official website of the developer along with licenses/approvals.

In the past, there were several cases of delay in the completion of project, non-possession of apartments, etc., which would now change with the help of RERA. Knowing essential details and information about RERA would help you to invest money in the right real estate project. So, if you are planning to buy property in Lucknow post-RERA, certain factors must be kept in mind in order to make an informed decision.

1. Is the Residential Property in Lucknow City Registered Under RERA

It is essential to check whether the residential project is registered under RERA before making advancement payment for the purchase of flat/apartment. The registration is compulsory for all the residential and commercial projects. Failure on the part of developer to register the project would draw penalty, which could be 10 percent of the project cost.

2. Getting the Projects Registration

Usually, customers who invest money in residential projects in Lucknow before the launch or completion get deceived by the builder. Under RERA, real estate companies have to get the registration of their housing project done for every level or stage separately, thus facilitating transparency and clarity.

3. No Advertisement/Promotion Without RERA Registration

You have to check if the builder has advertised or promoted the property before RERA registration. If any builder has done this, it is better to avoid any deals or transactions with that developer. If the project has already been registered, then every advertisement must include the RERA registration number.

4. Difference between Carpet and Super Built-Up Area

While looking for flats in Lucknow in a housing project, you must know the difference between carpet and super built-up area under RERA. The carpet area comes within the walls of the house, whereas super built-up area includes outer area such as staircase, lobby, balcony, etc. The builder will include the carpet area in selling price but not super built-up area.

5. Super Built-Up Cost Not Included

If any developer has added super built-up area cost in selling price, it is against RERA act. Under the act, carpet area instead of super built-up area has been clearly delimited in the law.

6. Certifications and Approvals

It is important to check whether the builder has all the necessary licenses, certifications and approvals from concerned authorities for the execution of the project. If the new or upcoming housing property in Lucknow has all the requisite licenses and approvals, it will be better to invest in that property.

7. Verify if the Projects Land is Disputed

Before making any deal or transaction with the developer, check for the legitimacy of the projects land and see to it that the land is not disputed. The real estate company must have complete registration and control of the housing project.

8. No Modifications in the Plan Without Written Permission

The realty firm must not make any modifications in the plan sold to customers without written consent. Generally, developers tend to engage in this practice, which would now be handled with RERA.

9. Financially Stable Builde

If the builder has sufficient finance, the project will be completed on time. On the other hand, if the developer lacks finance, the project will get delayed. So, if you are looking for apartments for sale in Lucknow, choose a builder who is financially stable and has proven track record.

If you keep the above mentioned points in mind while investing in an upcoming or new residential property in Lucknow, rest assured that you have made the right decision.

‘Freedom Tower’ renamed ‘1 World Trade Center’

Saturday, March 28, 2009

The 108-floor central component of the new World Trade Center in New York City has been officially renamed 1 World Trade Center, ending the Freedom Tower moniker it had sported since 2003.

Freedom Tower was envisioned as a symbol of America’s victory over terrorism. It is currently on track for completion in 2013, with 10 floors partially finished so far.

Port Authority Chairman Anthony Coscia commented on the change, “It’s the one that is easiest for people to identify with — and frankly, we’ve gotten a very interested and warm reception to it.”

Former Governor George Pataki, who revealed the Freedom Tower name nearly six years ago, was critical of the switch, saying “The Freedom Tower is not simply another piece of real estate and not just a name for marketing purposes.”

1 World Trade Center has been the building’s legal name and address for the past two years, with the public change precipitated by the ramp up of construction and the commencement of lease marketing.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg seemed ambivalent to the change, saying “I would like to see it stay the Freedom Tower, but it’s their building, and they don’t need me dumping on it. If they could rent the whole thing by changing the name, I guess they’re going to do that, and they probably, from a responsible point of view, should. From a patriotic point of view, is it going to make any difference?”

The change was approved following the signing of a two-decades-long lease by a Chinese real estate company, which plans to occupy floors 64 through 69. Other future tenants include the U.S. General Services Administration and the New York State Office of General Services.
