Fatal coal mine accident in western Turkey

Thursday, June 1, 2006

A mine accident killed at least nine miners in a coal mine in western Turkey. A methane explosion collapsed a mine shaft about 150 meters below the town of Odakoy, in Bal?kesir Province, near the border with Bursa Province. Rescue work was slowed by the presence of gas, with rescue workers having to be hospitalized for methane poisoning.

Turkey suffers relatively frequent mine accidents, especially due to methane pockets either igniting or poisoning miners. Some observers fault old & untrustworthy equipment, or a disregard for safety regulations.

My Paleo Diet Experience How To Lose Weight With A Good Diet}

Submitted by: Marianne Schwartz

The Paleo diet is the most popular diet at the moment and it is followed by millions of people. The diet is found in practice to be most effective when it comes to weight loss. Several studies indicate that the Paleo diet really works. Your fat percentage is not only down, but you also feel healthier if you follow this diet. The Paleo diet is really not just for people who want to lose weight. The Paleo diet is suitable for everyone, even the people who want to gain weight.

Personally, I’ve done it exactly for one-year. In this article, I will describe 13 reasons why the Paleo diet works so well and is so wonderful to follow.

1.You will lose weight

Meanwhile, it is endorsed by dozens of scientific studies… there is no perfect diet, but the Paleo diet comes closest. Repeatedly shown that the Paleo diet is most effective for people who want to lose weight.

2.It is not hard to catch up with

It is easy to maintain because you varify during the diet, which is actually more of a fun diet.

3.There are only a few simple rules

You have no app needed to keep your points and no book that prescribes lifestyle. Just a few simple rules that are easy to remember. Do not eat fast carbs, drink no calories and eat as naturally as possible. That’s it.

4.You can practice it anywhere

It is good to do everywhere. At work, during your vacation, if you go out to eat and so on. You will always find Paleo-proof food everywhere. This gives you less incentive to give up with the diet.

5.You’re going to feel really healthy

You can not yet imagine what it is when you really feel healthy. After 6 weeks Paleo I started to feel major differences. Your body just seems to be running much smoother and lighter… as if you first get oil in your engine. No other diet can give you that feeling.

6.It is also suitable for athletes

Sometimes it’s just nice to before or after exercise to eat a banana or other piece of fruit. It gives you that space. Even some honey is permitted in a container of yogurt. You get carbs still inside, but just something healthier.

7.There really find fantastic Paleo recipes

And not just those complicated recipes, but tasty Paleo recipes that you can prepare in 15 minutes. Also on Pinterest and various blogs are truly delicious Paleo find recipes. At my house we enjoy every Sunday of this delicious Paleo pancakes.

8.The Paleo diet is for the whole family

Paleo recipes don’t have a lot of differences with normal recipes. They are only made with healthier ingredients. For almost every “normal” recipe, is also a fantastic Paleo recipe.

9.It is a healthy diet, so you lose weight gradually and not instantly

The disadvantage of an old-fashioned diet is that you can’t keep it for ever. After the diet you have to yourself again figure out how to stay slim. Paleo diets can stick forever. Your body will stabilize itself by weight, as long as you listen to your body (eat when you are hungry and stop when you’re full) and of course eat the right things.

10.The Paleo diet is varied

Sweet, salty, sour, savory… you name it, and there is some Paleo-proof to find. There are even Paleo brownies and tarts. Believe me… with the Paleo diet you really will not get bored. For example, consider this book Paleo cookbook.

11.You do not have to go hungry

You do not have to go hungry because you can eat when you want and as much as you need. And because you are eating more protein and fat than normal, you will have much less hunger. Before, I lived from meal to meal. Now I sometimes forget to eat, just because I’m not hungry / hungry.

12.You’re going to enjoy more of your food

With the Paleo diet you do eat more natural ingredients, which also have more flavor. Why used those grandma stew to be tastier? Grandma peeled her potatoes themselves, they bought at the farm and they themselves harvested. Believe me… that matter!

13.You can start today with the Paleo Diet

Walk to your fruit bowl and grab an apple, banana or kiwi. Replace your sandwich with a nice salad and eat that tonight especially vegetables with meat or fish. Simply reduce tonight your potatoes, rice or pasta intake. It’s as easy as that. Of course you can later on organic products for maximum effect, but so you can start right now.

14.The Paleo diet relieves the symptoms of people with immune diseases

There are several studies that show that the Paleo diet reduce the customers of those with autoimmune diseases.

15.You may just eat when you’re hungry and stop when you are full

If your body asks for food, then that’s a reason. It can also be a very unpleasant feeling. The Paleo diet is anything but a starvation diet! You eat when you are hungry and stop when you’re full. A simple concept and give your body what it needs.

16.We are running towards detox, to let the bodycleanse all the toxins we ingest daily.

But we do not get into these toxins. With the Paleo diet you eat less automatically E-numbers and additives. This allows your body needs less working hard to break down everything.

17.You will feel fitter than eve

In particular, the insulin spikes caused by fast carbohydrates (bread, rice, pasta, biscuits, sweets and sugar) won’t occur. Perhaps the biggest incentive, in addition to losing weight, why people want to maintain this diet forever is because of this reason. In addition, your body works more efficiently on healthy food.

18.The lunch dip is history

The fast carbohydrates in bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, biscuits and sweets provide insulin spikes in your blood because your body with the insulin would break down the sugars. After the insulin spike it is almost always followed by a dip. This is all of the past with the Paleo diet.

19.You just don’t lose weight, you get in shape!

The great thing about the Paleo diet is that, as one of the few diets, no breaks down muscle mass if you ingest less calories. This is because the diet ensures that you automatically get enough protein. Only the low-carbohydrate diet equals the Paleo diet in this area.

20.You will be better of Paleo Diet

Nature has determined that we are aging and in particular, what we really can not do without, is responsible for this… oxygen. But sun and nutrition affect the speed at which we grow old. Paleo diet ensures that you’re getting the right vitamins, minerals and nutrients to work efficiently with your body. You’ll really see a difference after 6 weeks!! Take before and after photos.

21.You will feel healthy and confident

Old-fashioned diets ensures that you’re not comfortable in your own skin. It feels like a punishment. Around you see people good food, while you have to do it with a rice cake. Other people can eat whatever they want, without ever coming to a gram. It feels to you as punishment. Paleo diet does not give you that feeling! The meals that you eat are even better than their meals. Many times my friend, acquaintance or colleague were jealous for my salads and the next day also took a salad.

23.Your resistance increases significantly

Because with the Paleo diet you will ingest more vitamins and minerals, your resistance will increase. Your immune system gets an insane boost by the Paleo diet. A great diet for people who are often ill or out of shape!

England wins first match with 1-0 victory in Group B

Saturday, June 10, 2006

England beat Paraguay 1-0 in a bruising encounter among the shadows of the Commerzbank Arena, Frankfurt, Saturday.

In the sunshine and heat, which reached 30 degrees Celsius, it became a physical game that saw three bookings and the referee frequently blowing his whistle.

England got the perfect start scoring after just 3 minutes from a David Beckham freekick. Swung in from the left of the field, the ball clipped the head of Paraguayan captain Carlos Gamarra on its way to the net.

However; the game was not attractive for the neutral. Both sides looked nervous and no side got control of the midfield. Passes were frequently misplaced and attacks from both teams lacked cutting edge.

Paraguay lost number one goalkeeper Justo Villa to an injury in the sixth minute of the game. Aldo Borbadilla replaced him.

Missing Wayne Rooney, arguably their team’s most skilled player, whose recent injury though healed had ruled him out for this match, the noisy England fans in the crowd didn’t have much to sing about except the victory.

England’s Swedish manager Sven-Göran Eriksson‘s side had more possession but failed to score more than the one early goal. On their part, Paraguay was unable to capitalise on a number of English defensive errors to get an equaliser.

England next face Trinidad and Tobago while Paraguay face the England manager’s home nation, Sweden.

Michigan student and California engineer sue Amazon for remote deletion of ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Justin Gawronski and Antoine Bruguier sued Amazon.com on Thursday for remotely deleting their digital copies of George Orwell‘s Nineteen Eighty-Four from their Kindle devices. The suit, filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, argues in part that Amazon violated its terms of service, as well as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and Washington Consumer Protection Act.

Gawronski, a Michigan high school senior, originally purchased both his Kindle and an e-book of the novel for his Advanced Placement English summer reading. He made regular annotations using the Kindle’s facility, noting “If […] something […] catches my eye as I am reading, I just place a note there”. After reading online that Amazon was deleting some copies of Nineteen Eighty-Four, he switched his Kindle on, and watched the copy he had purchased vanish. He later found that the notes he had written were effectively useless, stating, “all my notes refer back to nothing”. He said he would probably have to re-read the entire book.

Bruguier, a Silicon Valley engineer, also had his copy of Nineteen Eighty-Four remotely deleted. According to the complaint, Amazon sent him an email saying they were “writing to confirm that we have processed your refund.” In response, Bruguier wrote that “I would like to keep the title 1984. I like this book.” Amazon refused to allow him to do so, and said they would not provide any “additional insight or action”. Eventually, Amazon wrote a new email justifying the deletion by claiming they had lacked the right to sell him the book. Bruguier noted in response that he was “annoyed by [Amazon’s] deceit” and that he “thought that once purchased, the books were [his].” His emails also quoted the portion of Amazon’s terms of service cited in the suit.

Both clients are represented by KamberEdelson, and the lawsuit seeks class action status. Several classes are delineated, representing relevant sub-groupings of Kindle owners.

Man arrested after attempting to break into Prince Charles’s home

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Police were called to the Highgrove House, the home belonging to Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, on Tuesday night after police received a call that there was an intruder on the property.

“He was detained within the grounds and did not gain access to any buildings,” said a spokesperson for the police, Tony Rymer.

A spokesperson for the estate refused to comment to the media calling it “a matter for the police” and that any comments on the intrusion should be given through them.

According to a Gloucester Police spokeswoman, a man from Bristol, England was arrested after wielding a pitchfork around the property. The name of the 55-year-old has not been released, but police charged him with trespassing. He was later released after posting bail.

Camilla and Charles, who were both present and sleeping on the estate at the time, were not injured.

Jeff Jones resigns as president of Uber

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Jeff Jones, president of ride-sharing company Uber Technologies, announced his resignation on Sunday. Jones was hired last October to helm the company that is known for their ride-sharing application, Uber, which has a reported 40 million monthly users.

Recently in Jones’s presidency of Uber, the ride-sharing company was involved in numerous controversies surrounding an alleged culture of sexism at the company, stemming from allegations blogged by Susan Fowler, a former Uber engineer, claiming sexual harassment against her and other women working for Uber.

In a statement to tech blog Recode, Jones claimed the situation he was working with at Uber was one inconsistent with “the beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career” and he could not remain the company’s president.

Jones, who was previously the Chief Marketing Officer at Target before joining Uber, came to the decision to resign after it was announced Uber would be hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) potentially outranking Jones.

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick confirmed the resignation in a statement to Uber staff, noting Jones “made an important impact on the company” in the six months he was in the role, noting his particular focus on Uber drivers and the delivery of Uber’s first brand reputation study.

Kalanick first announced his intentions to hire a COO earlier in March after footage surfaced of him arguing about rate cuts with an Uber driver.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi killed in airstrike

Thursday, June 8, 2006

The head of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has been killed in an air strike on a building north of Baqubah city, according to the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki.

“Today [sic] Zarqawi has been terminated,” he said Thursday, and suggested the man the United States had placed a $25 million price tag on for death or capture was located through intelligence.

“What happened today is a result of co-operation for which we have been asking from our masses and the citizens of our country,” he said.

The leader of coalition forces in Iraq, General George Casey said al-Zarqawi was killed in a two-storey safehouse about 8 km north of the city in Diyala province.

Several aides also died with him in the Wednesday evening raid by U.S. F-16 warplanes, including his key lieutenant and spiritual adviser Sheik Abdul Rahman. Some analysts believe a US counter-terrorism unit, Task Force 145, was involved in the attack.

Al-Zarqawi’s body, recovered after two 500-pound bombs had blown through his cover, was identified through fingerprint, tattoo and scar analysis and head likeness. Al-Zarqawi, whose real name was Ahmed Fadhil Nazzal al-Khalayleh, was believed to be in his late 30s when he died of injuries while US forces gave medical aid.

The first munition exploded at 6:15pm was a GBU-12 laser-guided bomb that was shortly followed by the newer GBU-38; both carried 500lb of explosives for total cost of $40,000.

The self-proclaimed frontman for Osama Bin Laden’s activities in Iraq, al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian national, is said to have been involved in the beheading of foreigners, hundreds of suicide attacks, and an insurgency against coalition forces after the Iraq war in 2003.

It had been reported Al-Zarqawi’s most recent campaign was to create problems between Shi’ite and Sunni groups in Iraq with ethnic killings.

For the Iraqi government the killing of the wanted murderer is what they sought but it remains unknown what effect the removal of this known figurehead of the Iraq insurgency will have on levels of violence in the country. Al-Zarqawi was not the only person to oppose the US-backed Iraqi government.

“Zarqawi didn’t have a number two. I can’t think of any single person who would succeed Zarqawi…In terms of effectiveness, there was no single leader in Iraq who could match his ruthlessness and his determination,” was the view of Rohan Gumaratna at the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore.

Applause was heard as Mr Maliki, with U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and U.S. Gen. George Casey, by his side, told news reporters “al-Zarqawi was terminated.”

Sources claiming to be Al-Qaeda in Iraq later confirmed that al-Zarqawi had been killed and said that they would fight the United States and the interim Iraqi government despite his death.

United States President George Bush spoke to journalists in the White House Rose Garden about al-Zarqawi’s death. “Zarqawi’s death is a severe blow to al-Qaeda. It’s a victory in the global war on terror, and it is an opportunity for Iraq’s new government to turn the tide of this struggle,” he said.

The US military also confirmed that six people were killed in the strike, including al-Zarqawi, and his spiritual adviser Sheikh Abd-al-Rahman The death toll is reported at three men, three women.[1] Some reports had said al-Zarqawi’s wife and daughter died. However U.S. officials state that there is no evidence confirming the death of al-Zarqawi’s wife and daughter.

First images received from orbit around Mercury

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

The first images of Mercury taken from orbit around the planet have been received from NASA’s MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and Ranging (MESSENGER) probe. The images come after the spacecraft entered an orbit around the closest planet to the sun on March 17.

After various system examinations, the first images from the spacecraft were sent at 0520 EDT (0920 UTC).

Before arriving in orbit around Mercury, the MESSENGER spacecraft was launched in 2004, passed by Mercury twice in 2008 and once more in 2009. MESSENGER is the first artificial satellite to be placed in orbit around Mercury. Because Mercury is the innermost planet in the Solar System, the sun’s gravitational attraction altered the spacecraft’s approach to the planet. Because of this, a series of several maneuvers over three years was required to put the probe in orbit.

Although MESSENGER is the first probe to enter orbit around Mercury, it is not the first to fly by. Mariner 10 was the first to do this when it made three passes during the 1970s.

NASA is continuing to release images taken by the spacecraft as they arrive at Earth. MESSENGER is scheduled to begin it’s primary mission on April 4, consisting of various scientific and visual observations of the planet. Some of the scientific goals the probe is to accomplish are: determination of the geologic composition of Mercury, study of the planet’s magnetic field and internal composition, and transmission of more than 75,000 images back to Earth.

KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald has performed an interview with Dr Isabella Margara, a London-based member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). In the interview Margara sets out the communist response to current events in Greece as well as discussing the viability of a communist economy for the nation. She also hit back at Petros Tzomakas, a member of another Greek far-left party which criticised KKE in a previous interview.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.
