10 Tips for Keeping Pests Away from Your Home

1)Always wipe your feet on a door mat outside of your home. Better, yet, stomp them to remove grime, dirt, and insects from your shoes. Ask your guests to do the same.

2)Put screens on your windows. Make sure the screens have very thin holes (as thin as you can possibly make them). Use these so you can still open your windows without the threat of allowing bugs into your home. The critters can still manage to find a way in, but this, by far, lessons the opportunity for bugs to enter your home as opposed to no screens.

3)Use mosquito nets outside your home to protect open areas on your porch and inside your garage from mosquitos. This includes your pool deck (if it s not caged in), jacuzzi, outdoor patios, dining areas, etc.

4)Use routine professional pest control to thoroughly inspect your home and spray using strong extermination equipment. Store-bought products won t operate the same, plus you re dealing with a highly-training professional who knows exactly how to use specialized equipment and will know what to look for.

5)Routinely bathe pets, whether indoors or outdoors. If your dog or cat plays outdoors or in the garage, brush and/or bathe them before they re-enter your home. Even if your animals are only allowed inside a screened-in patio or fenced in yard, you must clean them to avoid brining in unwanted insects into your home.

6)Wash dishes always. Do not let them sit in your dish drain for significant periods of time. If anything, rise dishes off with water, and then place in the dishwasher so they ll be ready to wash in a few hours.

7)Do not let food sit out inside your home for periods of time. Throw away uneaten food and soda cans (bugs love sugar). Don t leave plates around in your bedroom or living room, or on the kitchen counter.

8)Routinely clean your pantry. This should be an annual occurrence. Make sure all grains, cereal boxes, cookie jars, bread, and other perishable items are sealed air-tight. Failure to do so could result not only in ants and roaches, but also maggots.

9)If you have children, make sure they take a shower when they come home from school or from playing outside. Don t let them sit on couches without taking of their jackets and washing up.

10)Be sure to vacuum very diligently inside your home, not to miss any corners or crevices. This is especially true for carpeting.

11)Be sure to wash blankets, bedding, and mattress covers in hot water to kill off any potential bed bugs.
