What To Do When You’re Being Spied On With A Hidden Spy Camera

By Nahshon Roberts

As you may know, a hidden spy camera can be a very helpful tool to make you feel safe and secure. But what if they were used against you? What will you have to do? Here are things to remember if you suspect someone is violating your privacy.

Do Not Lose Your Cool

When you feel someone is secretly spying on you using a hidden spy camera, remain calm. Just go with the flow and act naturally. The people who are monitoring you will quickly split when they realize that you are on to them. If there is a police officer nearby, get his attention and ask for help. If you can, pretend to call a friend and dial 911. Be very vigilant when spy tactics are used.

Protect Your Home Front

Your family is an easy target for people who like to snoop around. This is particularly true for families with members who hold top positions in the government, or in big-name corporations. Infidelity is a leading cause of the invasion of a household’s privacy. Covert actions involving infidelity cases may be justified. Still, it is better to talk things out rather than to spy. It should only be as a last resort that a doubting wife will employ a private investigator to spy on her cheating husband.

Sit Perfectly Still And Listen

If you suspect that a hidden spy camera is placed in your room, sit still and listen for sounds that spy cameras make as they operate. Contrary to what most people say, even the most advanced spy cameras do not work silently. Listen for these sounds at the dead of the night when everyone is asleep. It will be like listening to the ticks of your clock, except that you would be listening for sounds as the hidden spy camera pans and tilts. When you have spotted where these cameras are, call the police.

Look For Subtle Changes

When there are small changes to things, chances are that there is a hidden spy camera behind them. Learn the habit of taking mental pictures of the stuff at home. Make sure that you remember how things were the last time you saw or used them. A personal radio that’s tuned to a station different than usual can be a tell-tale sign. Calculators and pens that are “out of place” are good indicators that someone is using a spy camera on you. Signals coming from mini spy cameras can also mess with your TV reception. Call the cops when TV signals at your home are frequently interrupted. A spy camera can also be placed in walls and in ceilings. Make sure to watch out for tile debris or any sign of tampering.

Act rationally, and do not let your paranoia get the best of you. When there’s no motive, there is no reason to suspect that you are being spied on. Still, it is better to put your suspicions to rest by asking a professional to do a bug search on your home.

New Zealand Government to repeal Electoral Finance Act

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

New Zealand’s National-led government will repeal the Electoral Finance Act by February next year, according to Justice Minister Simon Power.

“As part of its first 100 days’ commitment the Government intends to repeal the Electoral Finance Act 2007 and replace it with an interim regime by 26 February 2009”, Power said. However, the precise date would depend on the cooperation of other parties in the House.

The promise was made in Parliament yesterday in response to a question from ACT MP John Boscawen.

The Electoral Finance Act was passed in 2007 by the then-Labour government. It requires greater transparency around donations to political parties and places a financial cap on “third party” campaigning by other groups. Opponents of the law consider it a serious restriction of civil liberties, and further consider that spending private money on political campaigning is a democratic right. National promised to repeal the law during the recent election campaign.

Parliament is expected to begin next year’s sitting on February 10, 2009. Given the tight deadline, the repeal will almost certainly be conducted under urgency and without a select committee phase.

The National government has come under fire in recent days for its use of urgency to pass bills without sending them to select committee.

American disc jockey “DJ AM” dies at 36 of suspected drug overdose

Saturday, August 29, 2009

The American celebrity disc jockey Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein has been found dead in his apartment in Manhattan, New York. The cause of death is suspected to be a drug overdose. Goldstein was found dead by paramedics at 5:20 pm. Drug paraphernalia was found at his apartment, but the star had claimed to be clean for years after an addiction to crack cocaine.

Goldstein was a disc jockey at some of Hollywood’s most exclusive clubs and parties. He became a celebrity in his own right after relationships with actress Mandy Moore and the daughter of Lionel Richie, Nicole.

The disc jockey escaped death in September 2008 after he was involved in a plane crash that killed four people. Former drummer for rock band Blink-182, Travis Barker was also injured in the plane crash.

Several members of the Hollywood community released statements about Goldstein’s death. Television host Maria Menounos said “So horrible. In shock” and blogger Perez Hilton wrote on his Twitter page saying “He survived a deadly plane crash and now THIS, I can’t stop crying”.

Chemical plant fire decimates Danvers, Massachusetts neighboorhood

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

According to outgoing Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, an explosion that was “equivalent to a 2,000 lb. bomb” and registered 0.5 on the Richter scale decimated an area of Danvers and is also a “Thanksgiving miracle.”

The explosion occurred around 2:45 am EST, this morning in the Danversport area of Danvers, Massachusetts at the plant for solvent and ink manufacturer, CAI Inc. The explosion, which was caught on security camera and was heard up to over 25-50 miles away in southern Maine and New Hampshire.

The explosion damaged over 90 homes, blowing out windows and knocking some houses off their foundations. Officials believe that some of the more extensively damaged houses will have to be leveled and rebuilt. Some of the buildings damaged included a bakery, boats at a close by marina and the New England Home for the Deaf, an assisted-living facility for people who are deaf or deafblind and elderly residents requiring constant care. “These people are extremely fragile,” said state Rep. Ted Speliotis, D-Danvers, whose district includes the affected area. “Many of them have Alzheimer’s and other illnesses. It’s clear they can’t stay here long, but it’s clear they won’t be able to return for quite a while.”

Danvers Fire Chief James P. Tutko toured the area by helicopter and said many residents would be kept from their homes for the foreseeable future. “It looks like a war zone, that’s the only thing I can say,” Tutko said. When asked about the loss of no life at all, he responded “Somebody out there likes us.” Finally, he said that finding out the cause of the explosion would take days.

Outgoing governor Mitt Romney toured the area and said the explosion was a “Thanksgiving miracle” as the explosion was “equivalent to a 2,000 lb bomb going off in a residential neighborhood,” and that no one was killed and only about 10 people suffered only minor injuries in area that included over 300 residents. Residents of the area have been evacuated to the Danvers High School where temporary shelter has been set up by the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay. Donations are being taken for residents affected by the explosion. Residents are also being told to start filing insurance claims right away and to keep track of their expenses for items bought.

There were minor environmental concerns due to water runoff of chemicals. According the Environmental Protection Agency‘s on-scene coordinator Mike Nalipinski, preliminary tests showed low levels of toluene, a solvent, but said it was nothing of significance. Water runoff from the water used by firefighters left a purple sheen on the river and tests were being conducted. However, the water is not a local drinking water supply and the chemical evaporates quickly. Chief Tutko said there was no risk of toxic fumes getting into the air.

An Eastern Propane facility was also located near the area, however, it was not the source of the explosion. A spokesman for the company said that although the property suffered some minor damage, their tanks are secure.

According to WHDH television, a person who answered the telephone at CAI’s Georgetown, Massachusetts headquarters refused comment, and a telephone message left at the company president’s home was not immediately returned.

Campsite Cooking

By Cherie Rasmussen

One of the most interesting things about camping out is campsite cooking. Everything seems to taste so much better in the outdoors, especially when you have cooked it yourself. Outdoor cooking does require a lot of skills, but with a little bit of practice and some creativity, you could be a great outdoor cook.

Remember that in campsite cooking, everyone is willing to allow for mistakes and less than perfect results. You don’t need measuring cups, thermometers, measuring spoons, or other such elaborate and bulky cooking equipment. Keep equipment and utensils to the minimum, pack some frozen foods and vegetables that you can cook up easily using charcoal, wood, or even the good ole Dutch oven.

There are some easy tips you can use to make campsite cooking and eating enjoyable. Use simple minimum-fuss recipes. Foil wrap recipes will make dishes redundant and reduces the hassle of cleaning up later. It will also help if you are already prepared with the right recipes and ingredients before you set out. It also helps to carry some oven mitts and a couple of potholders while cooking in the open.

Pre-chop, peel, or pre-measure the ingredients and pack them in Ziploc bags. Label the bags correctly. Pre cook meats. Prepare soups, stews etc ahead of time. Freeze and keep in the cooler. If using pots, cover them while cooking. Not only will the food cook faster, insects and dirt will also keep out of your pots. To make cleaning easier, as also to protect yourself from smoke and fire damage, put liquid soap outside your pots and pans before you start to cook. Carry block ice rather than ice cubes.

One trick that will help you save time cooking in the outdoors is building the right type of fire for your cooking needs. Remember you will need to set up high flames for boiling, a low fire for stewing, and a bed of brightly burning charcoal or wood for frying.

As for the oven, the old, proven Dutch oven is really the best. You can even adjust your portable pressure cooker recipes for use in the Dutch oven. The Dutch oven is wider and deeper than the pressure cooker, so the pressure cooker recipes will adapt well to the Dutch oven.

Building your own barbecue pit may sound like a tedious project, but remember, a DIY barbecue pit will make you the envy of the neighborhood. What’s more building the pit yourself will give you the satisfaction no store bought pit will fetch. So are you feeling up to the enterprise? The results will be unmatched, for sure!

While you enjoy the pristine beauty of the outdoors, remember that it is equally important to leave the campsite clean before you move on. Bring biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning agents. Do not litter, remove even leftover food so as not to pollute the camping area. Follow these simple steps and campsite cooking is bound to be great fun!

Wikinews interviews Chilean Paralympic skier Jorge Migueles

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

Recently, Wikinews spent time with with Chilean Paralympic skier Jorge Migueles who was in Copper Mountain, Colorado for the IPC Nor-Am Cup.

((Wikinews)) I’m interviewing Jorge Migueles, he is here from Chile. And you’re from Santiago.

Jorge Migueles: Yes, from Santiago.

((WN)) What you’re what classification?

Jorge Migueles: LW4, I have a prosthetic I ski with, special for skiing, I have an amputation below the knee.

((WN)) When people think of skiing, they don’t automatically think Chile as a great place for skiers, and developing skiers. How did the skier [Jorge Migueles] from Chile become a skier?

Jorge Migueles: Yes it is a good place because all the big teams — USA, Austria, Canada — go for training there and they go […] in September because the snow is very hard for training, very icy, and it is very close to Santiago, to the airport, it is more easy for the logistics for the team.

((WN)) I take it that you really like skiing?

Jorge Migueles: Yeah.

((WN)) Do you do any other sports?

Jorge Migueles: Yes, I competed in triathlon, but only for a hobby. I got training in Santiago before to come here, to ski[?] here and one, two months in Europe.

((WN)) So the triathlon helps you with your skiing?

Jorge Migueles: Yeah.

((WN)) I take it your taking to go to Sochi?

Jorge Migueles: Yeah, I try.

((WN)) Has your country [Chile] won any Paralympic medals in the winter games?

Jorge Migueles: No, never, neither[?] olympic nor paralympic.

((WN)) So you want to be the first winter Paralympian medal from your country?

Jorge Migueles: I try that. Very difficult.

((WN)) Do you get government support for the winter Paralympic side?

Jorge Migueles: Not yet, but I try and get support from the government because in Chile all the sport in the summer in Santiago 2014 is all the sport in the summer is all they reimburse[?], the monies go there, in the winter it’s more difficult. But I try that.

((WN)) Is winter sport popular in Chile?

Jorge Migueles: Yeah, it’s popular, but it’s very expensive to practice skiing or snowboard.

((WN)) The only other major news story that people know about in Chile is the earthquake, that didn’t impact you that much you at all?

Jorge Migueles: Yes, a lot, because when […] had to stay here in United States training, and seeing in the news the earthquake, was very hard.

((WN)) And your family and everything was okay, with that?

Jorge Migueles: Yes, they’re okay.

((WN)) Is there anything people who know nothing about Paralympic sport in Chile should know?

Jorge Migueles: In London, in the past Olympic Game, one person with disability […], he won gold medal in London. […] He was the first Paralympic to win a medal in the history of Chile. And now the people know this movement [The Paralympics].

((WN)) That’s very cool. Okay. Thank you very, very much.

Jorge Migueles: Thank you.

Magnitude 5.8 earthquake in Virginia felt up and down U.S. east coast, Pentagon evacuated

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

A 5.8 earthquake struck 4 miles southwest of Mineral, Virginia, 80 miles south of Washington D.C., at 1:51 p.m. EDT (17:51 UTC) and lasted for 15–30 seconds. The quake had a magnitude of 5.8 with an epicenter 27 miles (43 km) east of Charlottesville, Virginia. A 2.8 aftershock was reported at 2:46 pm EDT (18:46 UTC).

According to Twitter reports, the quake was felt inland as far as Cleveland and Toronto and along the coast from Boston to Georgia. Police sergeant James Ryan, from South Brunswick, New Jersey stated that “The 911 line is flooding with calls right now. People want to know what happened. They want to know if there was an explosion.”

The United States Capitol and The Pentagon in Arlington were evacuated, as were police headquarters and city hall in New York City. Numerous minor injuries have been reported in Washington, D.C.; however, none of them are serious. There have been confirmed reports of damage at the Washington National Cathedral and the Smithsonian Castle. The Pentagon was also damaged when a burst pipe caused flooding. The North Anna Power Station lost offsite power and had to shut down, turning to four diesel generators to maintain cooling of the facility. Both the JFK and Newark airports were briefly shut down and the control towers were evacuated. A release from Amtrak stated that trains will be operating at reduced speed, but no damage has been found on any rail lines. The Washington Metro is also operating on reduced speed, with some stations closed down, while lines are evaluated.

In Boston, it was reported that the building at 111 Devonshire Street appeared to be leaning onto the adjacent building at 50 Milk Street, with fears that it could collapse. The street was blocked off while the Boston Fire Department investigated. However, it was determined that the buildings had always appeared like that. Nevertheless, the Boston Fire Department investigated the roof and the inside of 111 Devonshire St. After 30 minutes, the building was determined to be safe.

This is the second strongest earthquake to originate in Virginia since records have been kept, after the one recorded on May 31, 1897, near Giles County, which was estimated at a magnitude of 5.9.

The Dow initially dropped 50 points after the earthquake struck, but later increased over 100 points.

Experts: obesity is a bigger threat than AIDS or bird flu

Friday, September 8, 2006

From September 3 to 8, experts gathered at the 10th International Congress on Obesity in Sydney, Australia, to discuss what they call the worldwide “obesity epidemic”. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 billion people in the world today are overweight, and 300 million of those are obese. “Obesity and overweight pose a major risk for serious diet-related chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and certain forms of cancer“, a WHO fact sheet states. According to AP, experts at the conference “have warned that obesity is a bigger threat than AIDS or bird flu, and will easily overwhelm the world’s health care systems if urgent action is not taken”.

Of particular concern is the large number of overweight children. Dr. Stephan Rossner from Sweden’s Karolinska University Hospital, a leading obesity expert who was present at the conference, has warned that as a result of the increasing number of overweight children, “we will have, within a decade or two, a number of young people who are on kidney dialysis. There will not be organs for everybody”. UK-based International Obesity Task Force has said that junk food manufacturers target children, for example, through Internet advertising, chat rooms, text messages, and “advergames” on websites. Politicians are not doing enough to address the problem of obesity, including childhood obesity, the experts said.

According to Wikipedia, examples of junk food include, but are not limited to: hamburgers, pizza, candy, soda, and salty foods like potato chips and french fries. A well-known piece of junk food is the Big Mac. The US version of just one Big Mac burger contains 48% of calories from fat, 47% US Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of fat, 52% RDA of saturated fat, 26% RDA of cholesterol, 42% RDA of sodium, and little nutritional value. It also has 18% of calories from protein. According to WHO, most people need only about 5% calories from protein. Staples such as rice, corn, baked potatoes, pinto beans, as well as fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, oranges, and strawberries, provide more than this required amount of protein without the unhealthy amounts of fats or sodium, without cholesterol, and with plenty of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Both WHO and the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) define overweight in adults as a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or above, and obese as a BMI of 30 or above. To combat overweight and obesity, WHO recommends that, among other things, people should be taking the following steps

 • eating more fruit and vegetables, as well as nuts and whole grains;
 • engaging in daily moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes;
 • cutting the amount of fatty, sugary foods in the diet;
 • moving from saturated animal-based fats to unsaturated vegetable-oil based fats.

Orthodontics Treatments}

Submitted by: Robert Corter

The word orthodontics comes from the Greek word orthos, which means to straighten out, and the Greek word odous, which means tooth. The field of orthodontics is designed to realign your teeth and orthodontists specialize in this procedure. There are several types of orthodontics treatments and you can get orthodontics West Covina CA and enjoy smiling again.

Before you look for orthodontics West Covina CA, you’ll need to understand the various orthodontics treatments that exist and determine which ones work the best for your needs. One major type of orthodontics treatment is braces. Braces are used for the purpose of straightening teeth and filling in gaps that are between the teeth. There are the traditional metal braces and there are the invisible plastic retainers that the dentist puts on your teeth to straighten it. There are also the ceramic braces, which are made from materials that have the color of a tooth.

The average cost for braces is between $4,000 and $10,000 but overall the cost of the braces depends on the orthodontist and what your dental needs are. If you want affordable ways to get orthodontics West Covina CA, your best bet is to get dental insurance. Compare different plans and look at both the prices and service each plan offers.

Here is how you search for a good orthodontist in your area. Talk to friends or relatives who just received orthodontics treatment and ask about their orthodontists. Then research these orthodontists by meeting with them for consultations. Verify that the orthodontist is licensed and also ask to see samples of his work. Also choose an orthodontist that accepts your insurance because affordability is also important.

Here is how the orthodontist puts on braces. He first scrapes your teeth to eliminate saliva, sugars and plaque that could hinder the teeth straightening process and that will reduce bacteria on the teeth. After he does this he applies a conditioner which gets rid of all dirt particles and he later rinses it off. The orthodontist puts primer on your teeth, and then he puts the zinc phosphate paste on them. The orthodontist outs the brackets on your teeth.

While you’re wearing braces, you want to cut back on tough fruits and vegetables, tough meats, crunchy snacks and hard candies. You should also be careful when you’re brushing your teeth while wearing the braces. Cold drinks also shouldn’t be consumed because this leads to tooth decay and the braces increase this risk.

If you live in West Covina, you can get good orthodontics services from Dr. Lilian S. Ong DDS. She and her staff offer braces, implants and other dental services which will bring your beautiful smile back.

In conclusion, with the latest technology and the medical advances society has developed over the years, you can be free from misaligned and unsightly teeth.
